The SDS library holds millions of documents, with more than 20,000 new or updated SDSs added each week, according to VelocityEHS. Employees reach current SDSs from any device, GHS secondary labels print from SDS data, and inventories can be checked against more than 100 global, federal and state regulatory lists, including REACH, with EPCRA Tier II and TRI reporting. Manufacturers can use SDS and label authoring services. VelocityAI indexes SDS ingredients and supports a PFAS Indicator. VelocityEHS says its chemical management was aligned with OSHA's 2024 HazCom rule in October 2024.
- Operational Risk and Process Safety The Operational Risk solution covers management of change, risk analysis with bowtie diagrams (from the 2019 Meercat acquisition), electronic permit to work and job safety analysis. Verdantix praised VelocityEHS's management of change and chemical management in its 2023 Process Safety Management report, according to VelocityEHS. Since October 2025, AI Control Recommendations suggest hazards and controls from job steps, drawing on your own hazard library; suggestions are editable and auditable. VelocityEHS's pages do not list mechanical integrity or pre-startup safety review, so test those PSM elements in the demonstration.
- Ergonomics and Industrial Hygiene Industrial Ergonomics, built on the 2018 Humantech acquisition, uses AI-powered 3D motion capture to score MSD risk from video of a task, ranks jobs by risk and, since 2026, assesses grip types in repetitive hand work. Verdantix gave VelocityEHS a perfect 3.0 for ergonomics in 2026, according to VelocityEHS. The Industrial Hygiene module, from the 2019 Spiramid acquisition, manages similar exposure groups, sampling plans with laboratory data integration, a global occupational exposure limit database, IH equipment and respirator fit tests.
Pros
- The chemical capability is a genuine specialism rather than a module, and it is the reason to buy. EcoOnline began in 2000 as chemical and SDS software and grew the EHS suite outward from that core, which is visible in what the product does rather than only in what it markets. It authors safety data sheets through ALMEGO in over 80 languages, submits UFI and PCN data to ECHA automatically, pulls classification and occupational exposure limits and DNEL plus PNEC studies from ECHA datasets, and auto-classifies substances under GHS from a barcode scan at receipt. For an organization that places hazardous mixtures on multiple markets, that is a different category of capability from a platform that stores documents somebody else authored, and it directly removes a regulatory affairs workload rather than reorganising it.
- Regulatory change monitoring converts compliance from a review cycle into a running position. The platform identifies relevant legislative changes automatically and notifies users with recommended changes against their own substance register. For a Chemical Safety Manager holding several hundred substances across sites in different jurisdictions, the practical effect is knowing which of your substances a restriction touches on the day it moves, rather than during the next periodic review. This is the capability that most justifies the licence for multi jurisdiction operators, and it is the one least visible in a feature comparison.
- The AI is scoped to a real task and governed sensibly. SDS Smart Extraction, launched in June 2025, extracts substance data from an existing safety data sheet, presents it to the user for accuracy review, and only then creates the substances as raw materials or mixtures with library entries populated. In a domain where an incorrect hazard classification is a legal exposure rather than a formatting error, proposing and confirming is the defensible design. It attacks the specific task that consumes the most time in SDS production, which is data transfer, rather than promising a general assistant.
- Chemical management at the core. VelocityEHS began as MSDSonline in 1996, and its SDS library — millions of documents, with more than 20,000 updates a week, according to the company — is the foundation of the platform. GHS labels, more than 100 regulatory lists, Tier II and TRI reporting and a PFAS Indicator sit in the same place. That matters because Hazard Communication was the second most-cited OSHA standard in fiscal year 2026, on OSHA's preliminary list.
- Ergonomics with real depth. AI-powered 3D motion capture scores MSD risk from video without an ergonomist on site, a 2026 assessment covers grip types in hand-intensive work, and jobs are ranked by risk. Verdantix gave VelocityEHS a perfect 3.0 for ergonomics in 2026, according to VelocityEHS, and AGCO reports a total case incident rate down by more than 50% at six sites in 2024, in a vendor-published case study.
- Practical AI with human oversight. VelocityAI and the Vēlo assistant suggest hazards, root causes, corrective actions and controls inside existing incident and job safety analysis workflows, verify contractor OSHA logs and insurance certificates up to 7x faster according to VelocityEHS, and keep suggestions editable and auditable.
Cons
- The general EHS layer is competent rather than category defining, and the analyst evidence says so. EcoOnline states Leader placement in the Verdantix Green Quadrant for EHS Software 2025. The Verdantix press release for that same report identifies seven firms as offering robust all round EHS management capabilities, naming Benchmark Gensuite, Cority, Evotix, Intelex, Sphera, VelocityEHS and Wolters Kluwer Enablon, and EcoOnline is not among them. For a chemical first specialist that omission is coherent rather than damning, but it is decisive information for a buyer whose primary requirement is a general EHS management system with chemicals as a secondary need. Those buyers should shortlist from the seven and treat EcoOnline as the chemical specialist they might add.
- The breadth was assembled by acquisition, and the buyer inherits the integration question. Verdantix recorded twelve acquisitions in the four years to 2023, before the Alcumus software division deal in January 2023 added seven further EHSQ tools and around 300 staff. D4H provides emergency response and crisis management, StaySafe provides lone worker protection, Ecometrica provides ESG and carbon accounting, and the Alcumus suite provides further EHSQ capability. Each is a real product with its own lineage. No buyer should assume that a capability appearing on a solution page shares a data layer with the chemical register. Ask which modules share substance and site master data today and which exchange it by integration, and get the answer before signing.
- The North American position is newer than the European one. EcoOnline built its base in the Nordics with strong growth in the UK and Ireland, and Verdantix observed at the time of the Alcumus deal that the company had previously hinted at US market entry through GHS support without committing the investment to move the needle in a highly competitive North American market. The Alcumus acquisition and the October 2025 North American expansion push are the correction to that, and they are recent. A North American buyer who requires a long domestic reference base in their own sector should ask for those references specifically rather than accepting the global customer count.
- Depth centred on US regulation. The platform is built around OSHA and EPA requirements. It supports more than 15 languages, but organizations whose obligations are mainly non-US — EU directives, RIDDOR, Asia-Pacific rules — or whose priority is multi-standard ISO certification should test their own requirements and compare Intelex.
- PSM coverage to verify. VelocityEHS's pages name management of change, bowtie risk analysis, permit to work and job safety analysis, but not mechanical integrity or pre-startup safety review. Cority is also a Verdantix Leader for Process Safety Management in 2026. Ask for a walk-through of all 14 elements on one of your covered processes.
- Support and price increases in recent reviews. Some Capterra reviewers in 2025 and 2026 report slow support, costs that rise year after year and high prices for smaller organizations, while others rate customer service highly. Several recent reviews were solicited by the vendor with an incentive. Check support terms and speak to recent customers.
